Can't change default application with dual OpenOffice instal

My operating system is osx2.5.2 and I have both OpenOffice 2.3.0 and 2.4.0 installed. All of my application defaults are set to 2.3.0 and I want to change them to 2.4.0.
I CTRL-click the file in finder => 'Get Info' => Open with:
The pop-up menu lists
OpenOffice.org 2.3.app (default) (2.3.0)
OpenOffice.org 2.4.app (2.4.0)

I select OpenOffice.org 2.4 (2.4.0) and click 'Change All...' .
I get the pop-up "Are you sure you want to change all similar documents..."
I click 'continue' and the 'Open with:' selection window changes back to OpenOffice.orgh 2.3.app (default) (2.3.0).

Is there a setup setting somewhere which needs to be changed to set OpenOffice.org 2.4.app as the default application?
