Model in a Lan

Post by michele_ »

Welcome beginner. Please answer all of the questions below which may provide information necessary to answer your question.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Which version of OpenOffice.org are you using? 2.0
What Operating System (version) are you using? Windows XP
What is your question or comment?

I have a Lan with 4 Pc (1 server and 3 client).

I need to have the same Model for Open Office in every PC.

I have folder with 7 subfolder with the model, like:

Tax --> Model1Tax, model2Tax, model3Tax,
Law--> Model1Law, Model2Law, Model3Law

So I make a Shared Folder in the Server and modific the Model folder in every OpenOffice on client PC for permit to open the model in the server Share Folder.

But the time for open the Model interface is really much, near to the 1 minute, So I create for every client a folder in the PC and upload in every client the model folder.

Now the time for open a model is good.

But I have the big problem:

I have 7 subfolder with the model, and when I open the Model Interface some model is in a not correct folder.

For example in the Tax Model folder I find: Model1Tax, model2Tax, model3Tax + Model1Law

But Model1Law is put in the Law Folder model and not Tax.

At this point I delete The Law Model folder.
Open OpenOffice and try to open a Model.
In the Tax model folder ther eis still the Model1Law.
But in my Pc there is not the Lwa folder, I delete it.
The only way to delete the not correct models in the subfolder model is use the Manage Model function.
With this I can delete the model not correct.

But the problem is still active, because when I upload the LAw folder and try to open a model I see the not correct model in a not correct folder.

Can someone help me for put all the Law model in the Law folder and Tax model in the Tax Folder.

The only point that is egual in every not correct model is that have "No Name" in the property field.

thank you

What is the "model"? Is it a database? Is it spreadsheet files?

I'm not sure what you have and what you are trying to do.

Model for me is odt or ott Writer Document.

For exmple the document for ask a price for the Table or Chair to the producer.
In my office every person need to use the same model document for write the request price to send via Fax to a company.

When for example is need to modific the Price Request Model (example modific the adress of my office or telephone number) every office person need to have the new Price Request model for work.

I upload in every persone Pc the new Price request Model and thier can open it with OpenOffice and continuos to work.

This is my scenario with the Model.
The model is a document for Writer pre-made structure when the people can use it for create a correct document for Request a price for something.

Thank you :)

Hmm, I'll have to study what you wrote, but I can say this right now: if it takes about one minute to open a simple template document over the network, then something is seriously wrong. Does that time include starting OOo as well?? How long does it take to open a template across the network if you start from OOo already running?

If I were you, I would concentrate on making it work over the network: that is exactly the way it should be used, and then you can have one directory for the shared templates and documents.

Thank you for the answer,

If openoffice is already open and I try to open a shared emplates tand documents need 1 minuts.

If openoffice is close ... I need more time than 1 minute.

The speed lan is 100 Mbps and is a drag and drop a files between 2 Pc the speed is really good.

I don't know why open a templates and documents directly with openoffice is need much time.

Thank you

Hmm, I would say there certainly seems to be something wrong there. I don't know if it's a bug in OOo, or something in your LAN configuration, but I would try to resolve that problem if you can.

Unfortunately, I doubt I can be of much help with that, but maybe someone here has some suggestions.
