[Solved] 2.3 won't open .ods file
I've upgraded to OO 2.3. When I click on a .ods spreadsheet created with an earlier version of OO I get a message that says the file may pose a security risk and instructs me to rename the file using the correct extension for 'ODS SPREADSHEET'. What is the correct extension for an OpenOffice 2.3 spreadsheet?

It is .ods !
Is there any macro inside ? Do you manage to open the file anyway ?
NB: I've moved your thread to the Calc forum.

There are no macros in the spreadsheet. I am able to open the file by right clicking on the desktop icon and using "open with OpenOffice Spreadsheet"

Perhaps you've lost your file association. Try that : ERROR:Document does not exist.

Re: 2.3 won't open .ods file
I'm using Ubuntu 7.10 and the icon properties are set to "open with OpenOffice.org Spreadsheet'.
File name is Portfolio.ods
The full text of the error message that I receive is:
"Cannot open Portfolio.ods
The filename "Portfolio.ods" indicates that this file is of type "ods document". The contents of the file indicate that the file is of type "ODS spreadsheet". If you open this file, the file might present a security risk to your system.
Do not open the file unless you created the file yourself, or received the file from a trusted source. To open the file, rename the file to the correct extension for "ODS spreadsheet", then open the file normally. Alternatively, use the Open With menu to choose a specific application for the file."

If you right click on a .ods file then Properties and go to the Open with tab, select OOo 2.3 and see if that helps.

Re: 2.3 won't open .ods file
The properties are already set for 'OpenOffice.org Spreadsheet'. Another alternative that doesn't work is 'OpenOffice.org' .
Properties would not accept OpenOffice.org 2.3; it said it couldn't find the program.

Re: 2.3 won't open .ods file
I think I have it solved. Apparently the problem was with the Portfolio part of the filename Portfolio.ods. 'Portfolio' might be a reserved word for an OO document. After I renamed the file to 'Testname.ods, the file opens perfectly by clicking on the icon.
