Edit: I was playing around with this and just trying figure out why this would not launch. I went into the start menu and then clicked on "Open Office" and a drop down menu came up with the different types of files, e.g. OOcalc, OOdraw, OOwriter. I did not realize that all I had to do was double click on any one of them and run the wizard and voile! I am able to use it!!!!!! Thanks to those of you who responded. Hope this helps someone who is as illiterate with computers as I am! |
[Solved] OOo download and install for Windows Vista
[Solved] OOo download and install for Windows Vista
I bought 00.o2.3 for Vista as a download. After downloading, when I tried to use it (clicking on the folder icon on desktop) it opens to a window with 12 items (e.g. java, licenses, readmes, setup (application), setup (configuration), etc. Does this indicate that I did not complete the download and where do I go from here?

Re: download
Depending how you downloaded and "tried to use it," it should be installed. Check your programs list in the start menu. If it is not installed, run the setup application in that folder. Once the program is installed, you can delete the folder on your desktop with java, licenses, setup, etc.

Re: download
You did what? You spend money to download OOo 2.3.0 afterwards by yourself? Why didn't you simply download it from http://openoffice.org? BTW: Where did you download your OOo version?bblue wrote:I bought 00.o2.3 for Vista as a download.
OOo 3.2.0 on Ubuntu 10.04 • OOo 3.2.1 on Windows 7 64-bit and MS Windows XP
Re: download
Ok, I checked the programs list and it is installed, however, no matter where I double click (on the folder on the desktop) or in the start up menu, the only response I get is for the file to expand and show all the items it has in it. It never actually goes to the program "open office" so I can start creating documents. I uninstalled it and installed it again, going through the whole process with the same result. Any other suggestions?AndrewZ wrote:Depending how you downloaded and "tried to use it," it should be installed. Check your programs list in the start menu. Re: download
The reason I spent money (3.50) for the download was because I wanted to make sure I was getting a download that was compatible with Vista because I have had so much trouble installing programs in the past because they were not compatible with Vista. I downloaded it from http://www.centralbizop.com. I don't think the problem is with the version as much as with the installer. I am a real novice when it comes to doing anything with a computer. It took me five tries with online support to hook up my laptop to a wireless printerhol.sten wrote:You did what? You spend money to download OOo 2.3.0 afterwards by yourself?
