My document is a blank page when opened?

Okay, so I typed out a report today that spanned about three pages of the writer, complete with JPegs here and there. I saved my document and closed it. Then I tried opening it again and now I have one blank page. The icon is different from other times too. In my folder it's a :

- OpenOffice-Writer-icon.png (10.71 KiB) Viewed 11542 times
Though the lighter blue the white lines are on is white, and the lines are blue on my pc. It's an Open Document Text file (.xml) and it containts 492 kb, despite being a blank page, this's made me think there may be hope for my report.
Please, if anyone could help it would be much appreciated!!

Hi and welcome to the forum!
If you open it and save as .odt, what happens?
Can you upload the file (see
How to attach a document here)?

Hiya. Thank you for the welcome :'D Phew, I've calmed in my panic since posting here...
I tried saving it as the .odt, but I only save a blank document, unfortunately.
File attached as a .doc in Microsoft 97/200/XP Hopefully that's ok.

That's a blank document of 16 Kb (and that's just the bare bones of a Word document). Better try with the odt. If that's too big to upload it here, upload at
www.mediafire.com.

I see.. I'm not sure if I uploaded the wrong file or not. It's quite late and I'm tired. I'll just try mediafire though, it'll be less difficult to mess up at this hour =_='
Here we go;

That's the data of the Word file with graphics in xml format. I can't see a sign of any text in it.

I don't know enough about XML to do anything sensible, but I can tell you there is some text content and what I think are several illustrations. Retrieving them will take more expertise with XML than I have so I'll leave that for someone who knows.
It has text on comics, floris_v, and it thinks it has 1597 words and 57 paragraphs, and the author is browsing comics in Dublin.

I deleted all graphics data and xml code from that file with Word (that still has better search/replace tools than OOo) and saved the result - a short introductory text. (Judging by the size it's hardly worth the effort.) If you still have the originals of the illustrations, it could be easier to rewrite the file from scratch. And some people would say that the new text would probably be better as well. Save as Writer file (odt), not in Word format (doc), and only save as doc if you have to share the file with somebody who can't open odt.

I'm of the school that says a second writing while the text is fresh in one's mind is frequently better. Work in .odt format, Save As in Doc format to share with others, but then immediately revert to your .odt file.
