[Solved] Problem with copy\paste remote pictures

Post by Nite »

Hi,
i'm having the following problem using OOWriter 3.3.0 :

I oftern copy\paste "sections" of webpages that includes both text and pictures in a Writer document.
The operation works perfectly, but sometimes (doesnt happen all the time), when i scroll down the document (or if i write for example on the first page, so the document scrolls down by itself) Writer OFTEN freezes for few seconds (can be 5-10-15-20 seconds...) and then returns to work fine.
The problem must be related to the "remote" pictures (if i remove them, freezing doesnt happen anymore).
Is there a way i can copy\paste from a website amd make Writer download the pictures to local, instead of linking them in the document? (i guess it freezes because it has to re-download them all the time?)

thanks,

Nite

Hi and welcome to the forum!

I think it's because of the remote pictures that are retrieved from the web when they have to be displayed. Try the menu Edit>Links and break them to embed the pics.
Else, paste as unformatted text and save the pics separately to your HD before inserting them with the menu Insert>Picture>From file.

Please add '[Solved]' at the beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

Thanks for helping.

I didnt know the "break links" function. After using that it seems to work.
If i did understand correctly, using this function the picture files will be saved in the odt file on my computer, right?

Yes, they will be incorporated in the file. However, if you have many pictures or of large size, take care to have a backup procedure in place, as there are reports on the forum of sudden loss of pictures. When you close your file, give time for the process to complete before shutting down your computer.
