Post by lahelasky »

I'm am trying to edit an excel 97-2003 worksheet in OO3.3.0 but it will only open as a read-only document. What am I doing wrong?

Have you read/write access to the drive on which the file is? If it is on a CD/DVD it will be read-only. If you have moved it from a CD/DVD/USB to a hard disk it may be marked Read-only at system level. Right click on the file, select Properties, and if the Read-only checkbox is checked, uncheck it and OK out.

It is saved on my external hard drive. I use Excel at work but OO at home.

That may be the problem. Move it to the internal hard drive and look at its properties. Change them if necessary, edit it, then move back to the external dive for transfer. I'm not sure if one can modify properties on an external drive to make Read/write, but you could try that also.
