[Issue] MSOffice hyperlinks to OOo docs not working properly

Post by Mattallic »

An Excel 2000 sheet, opened in Excel 2000, has hyperlinks to Word, Excel and Calc documents.
Word and Excel links work fine, links to Calc documents will open momentarily and then immediately close.
Anyone any ideas why this is so?

Using OOo 2.4 on Vista Business, same problem on XP Pro.

Cheers,
Matt.
Edit: Mattallic: changed the title (replaced 'Excel' by 'MSOffice' since the issue is also with other MSOffice documents).

Seems to be an issue of bad implementation or security or both. The URL seems to be parsed in full lenght and if there is anyhing not in order - such as #Sheet1!A1 - the whole process fails. However, within the same office suite this seems to be not an issue. file:///path/file.ods#Nonsense will at least open an existing file.ods.

Thanks for your reply.
I've not got any #Sheet!A1 commands or the like in the hyperlink it's just a link straight to a file.
The link I've got is along the lines of:

\\SERVER\Folder1\Folder2\File Name.ods

I've tried your file:///path/file.ods syntax but Excel keeps changing it back to the above style.
The \\SERVER\... link will open the document in Calc but Calc is then immediately closed - the document won't stay open.
If it is a security issue is it with Excel or Calc?
Can it be fixed??

Thanks for your help.

I can not answer this, since I don't know the source. Most recent thread about same issue: http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/ ... =11&t=3006
You see, that most of us are users like you. I have some difficulty to understand what is going on there, in particular without using Excel. If you want to get something done, you should walk the official way as described here: [Tutorial] Reporting bugs

Thanks again for the reply.
I'm thinking of reporting a bug but perhaps someone can check first to see if it's a common problem or just me...
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Excel (I'm using Excel 2000 SP3)
2. Create a hyperlink to an ods document (also tried odt - this failed also)
3. Click on hyperlink

What I am experiencing is the document opening for a split second and then closing, going back to Excel.
Can anyone else confirm or deny this problem?

+1. Same problem on W2k with OOo 2.3.1 (haven't installed 2.4 yet) and Excel 2003 SP2.

Link to a Calc document => open and immediate closure.
Link to a Writer or Impress document => open, immediate closure, launch the recovery process (with no document to be recovered) and then the crash report process.

Note that in all cases, soffice.bin and soffice.exe processes are still listed in the task manager even if no OOo windows is visible (and Quickstarter is always off).

I tag the thread as issue, post the link here once you've filed a report (or found one already filed).

Glad I'm not imagining it!
I've filed a new bug report as I couldn't find a related one (which is surprising as I'd have thought this'd come up before now).

Link here:

http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=87499

Wasn't sure which component to put it under so it's currently on *Testproduct (This is the first bug report I've filed).
I think I can still change the component so let me know if it's better off elsewhere.

It's not testproduct since it's with a stable release. Perhaps framework?
In the URL field, you can put the address of that thread, it can give more 'context' details to the devs.

NB: I just checked with MS Word and Powerpoint and same issue. So it's general to the MS Office applications.

Same problem with 2.4.1
Can someone please move this post from "Applications - Calc" to "Getting Started - Troubleshooting" or better as it's no longer Calc specific?
Cheers,
Matt.
