Auto backup

Post by WilliamBrandt »

One thing which I find a little annoying:

I have set my backup path to E: When working I keep my USB plugged in and everytime I hit save (ie frequently!) a backup goes onto the USB. If I forget to plug in my USB a warning dialogue comes up. So far so good. But what is less good is that if my USB isn't plugged in and the E: backup fails - the save-to-disk is also aborted. The file isn't saved at all! I suppose in a way it's good because it forces me to go and find my USB. But I'd rather that the save-to-disk went ahead and a warning dialogue came up to say that the backup failed.

I've noticed the same thing with files open over a network. If the network goes down I'll get an error when I press Save, so I Save as... to the local hard drive. So far so good. Then, after a few more changes, I come to do another Save, but because my auto-backup is set to a different, but still networked, drive, I get an error that the backup failed. It does not make it clear that the Save was also aborted.
