Hello community,
I've been using OpenOffice for years now, and as a teacher I'd like to use it in the classroom as well now. Up to now, I always used Impress to create slide and then print these on transparencies, but now that projectors are becoming more and more available I thought it would be a great idea to abandon the good old overhead projector...
However, for classroom usage I'd need one simple feature: Just like the lines within ONE textbox can be selected to appear one after another, the colums / rows of a table should be selectable as well... Probably hard to understand for all those who just use Impress to simply present, but for classroom usage this would be vital.
Now, my question is, is there a site out somewhere where one can submit such requests? The collest thing would be a site where one could donate money via Paypal and when many users have donated money the feature would be implemented...
I mean, a normal site with feature requests would be a fine thing as well, but when it comes to asking for features without paying anything I gues there would just be too many feature requests...
So, please, you people out there who are familiar not only with the software but also with the actual processes involved in improving OpenOffice, can you tell me a website where people can ask for features? Preferably with the possibility of making a donation?
Kind regards,
Peter

Hi and welcome to the forum!
-> [Tutorial] Reporting bugs or suggestions.
But can't you fake the table with different text boxes that are displayed one after the other?

Re: Feature requests / where to submit
Hi Hagar,
thanks for your reply, that tutorial was exactly what I needed.
To your question: Well, basically I could do that and it's probably what I will have to do if that feature isn't added. The only problem, of course, is that it takes more time (even with copy and paste) to set up something which looks exactly like a table, and having something like that is essential to having a slide which is good to look at.
Maybe an example will be helpful in understanding my problem better: For example, I have a gapped text in the students' textbook, the gaps are numbered from let's say 1-15. There is one word per gap. When doing this in class, I need a slide which shows the correct solutions one after another. With a table, such a transparency is easily and quickly made. I just insert a table with 2 colums and 15 rows, type the numbers in one colum and the words in the other column. Doing a fake table for this type of task is much more time-consuming, and for one lesson I usually need 3-5 of those transparencies, and given that I have 6 lessons a day, of course it makes a difference if making such a slide takes me 5 minutes or just half a minute...
Anyway, thanks again.
Regards, Peter

You could make a template with the correct structure and use it every time you have need. All you would have to do is fill in the blanks.

Oh,
now I've come up with another question still, the answer to which I couldn't find in the tutorial...
When I want to search for a feature in a specific extension (here: Presenter Console), is it correct if I choose "extensions" in the components field?

Similar to RoryOF solution, you can can use the table completed as the template for all the slides and add white shapes above each word and then remove the shapes one by one at each slide.
