I have open3.2 and i can not open any email attachments sent to me that say something about power-point 97-2003, I have downloaded on advice from open site "file format converters" that does nothing,

power point viewer also does nothing.

Now on the site open recommend "document converter.py" so i download it but when i try run it asks me to search the web as windows needs to know what program created it. Can open office read these files or not ? I do not understand a thing about all the jargon and fancy numbers in the articles all i want to be able to do is open a attachment in a email. I run 32 bit XP system, Thanks.

Yes, OOo can open these files. Save it to your desktop first.

Don't try to open it from within the email. Then open OOo and go to File > Open and see if you can open the file.

If you can, but you can't when you just double click the file on the desktop, then you need to set the file associations.

Running this utility should set the associations correctly: OOoAssociation Utility.
