How to reset the row height default global setting

OOCalc. 3.2.1
WinXP Pro w/sp3

Something has gone severely awry with the row heights. The current worksheet had been using the default
setting ( .18 ) primarily, with approx. 50 rows being manually set to either (.16) or (.25) out of a total of
3600 rows. Now, the first 280 rows are formatted as they should be and then the following rows have
intermittently changed to (.16) or stayed at (.18); the user modified rows (.25) have not been affected.
By intermittently, I mean it may be every other row being .16 and .18, 100's rows at .16 or some grouping
in between. However, after the last data input row and continuing down to at least row 26,000 , the rows
are a height of (.16).

Additionally, the default font color ( black ) changed to the 'chart5' (reddish) color and the default number
format changed from zero decimals to one decimal , affecting all entered data. Any user modified formats
were not affected. Managed to get these corrected through ' Styles & Formatting ' ; however, I have not
been able to find a way to reset the global default row height to (.18).

Any ideas ??

Thanks
ray

the select row(s) and "Ctrl-M" method does not work?
or...: "Format -> Row -> Optimal height -> default value

The global optimal row height of .18 is based on the default font size of 10. The optimal height for a given row is based on the maximum font size in the row.

Zizi64---- yes, those work....problem was, I had not selected 29,000 + rows to set to .16 .

Charlie Young--- have to agree with the first half of your response. I went back to the Styles &
Formatting option and changed the font to 10 and the rows adjusted to .18; however, the way I
read the second half, if there is no other data entered on a given row from col.A -- col. AMJ and
I change the font size from within the spreadsheet to a font smaller than 10, that row should
reduce in height. I went to a blank row well below the last line of the entered data and changed
the font size to 8 and 6, entered data each time and the row height stayed at .18. If I change to
a font size greater than 10, then it does in fact increase the row height.

Thanks for the help !!

Well let's be clear about this. If you change the font size for an entire row to 6 or 8, its optimal height will in fact shrink even if there are no number or text entries in the row. An otherwise blank cell in the row with the default font size counts toward the maximum, so it seems. if you format even a single cell in an otherwise blank row to a font size larger than the default, it will increase the row's optimal height.

Charlie Young..... thanks for the clarification; wasn't trying to be nit-picky on the issue, just
wanted to understand what was happening.

No problem at all. I didn't really understand the details of this until I looked into it here. One of the blessings of participating in these forums.

Hi guys,

I have somewhat a similar problem on OpenOffice Calc.

It seems that the default value for row height on different platform has different value, for instance, calc on windows is 0.18 but on Mac, it is set to 0.16.

I have created a invoice and has been using it on my Windows version for a couple of years until recently when I tried on my Mac. The invoice consist of 2 pages and when I used it on my Mac, portion of the second page was moved up to the lower part of the first page. Having said that, the page width is also increased, which in term out of page width margin. e.g on Windows, I set my column width to 4.0", it appeared on my Mac as 4.44" etc etc.

Has anyone had a similar problem as mine?

Hope someone can help.

Thank you very much

I do not know if you are having the problem I had, but my default cell size was HUGE when I opened a new sheet in OO calc. I resolved the problem by selection View/Zoom from the menu and selecting "Fit Width and Height".
