Delete header/footer

Post by jimrbarrett »

I am unable to remove footers/headers from text documents. When viewed in Print format I see footer/headers that I want to remove/delete. I then follow the steps: Insert- Footer- All, and the unwanted footer disappears; I close the doc, but when I reopen it blank footer slots reappear on the doc. Why do they disappear when I follow the steps for removing them, but then reappear as blanks when the doc is reopened?

Are you think the Running foot/Running head?
When the answeris yes,
You need to remove from (turn off in) all of used pagestyles.
for example: Turning off in Default pagestyle
Turnoff_running_head.png
when the doc is reopened?
Do you mean doc as MSword doc format?
Always save the document into default ODF format, and - if necessary - at end of editing make a copy to MS or other format. Always open for re-editing the ODF file.

Doc is saved as MS Word. Have gone to "Page Style: Default" to turn off, "uncheck" , the "Footer on" check box, but the footer keeps reappearing when I reopen the doc. Also, when I again open "Page Style" on the doc, the "Footer on" box is again checked. It is as if the system keeps overriding my deletion of the footer.

I saved a new odt document to doc Word97/XP format, without footer and header (with default pagestyle). When I re-opened,it works fine, nor displayed nor turned-on the footer and header.

Wich software was created that file?
Try to create a custom page style. Adjust it and apply it to your document. Save the modified document as odt and save as in doc format too.
(Maybe the style named as "Default" the doc-exporter exports faulty. It is just an idea)

You could try creating a new document and verifying that the headers and footers are off inthe default Style. Then copy the content from the old file and save in the new file.

You should upload the file here, it seems very similar to that one: Problem converting odt to doc with different page styles.
