Pie or column chart design problems

For a book I am writing I need to have either a pie or column chart. I have battled for days with it, but did not get a positive result. When I use a pie chart I get now the sectors right (thanks to Hagar de l'Est), but I also need to mark each radius in equal intervals with either the numbers 1 - 4, or with some other mark, i.e. cross or dot. This has frustrated me. I then want to copy / paste the result into the text of my book. This has frustrated me when I used Word and pencilled the marks, because it only copied the circle with the sectors without the markings.
Is it possible to do what I want to do? How?
When I use a column chart it is easier to do, but not by far as pretty as a pie chart. Also when I enter the data range with 5 (center point being zero, then my 1 - 4, and 5 being where the radius ends), the column ends at 6, when I enter the range at 4, it ends at 4.5.
How can I avoid it?
Can I make the columns in different colors?

Can you draw what you want, scan it and then attach it here so we can see what you are trying to achieve?

Hello Gurkha
I have attached my ideal outcome. It was done with Word. But when I try to transfer it to OpenOffice, only the circle with the radii comes up. I have managed to come close to do the same with OO Draw (very hard work!), but again it failed to transfer to my book. Only the very pretty pie chart came up without the add-ins.
I would not mind doing a column chart, even though I prefer a pie chart, but this creates the problems that I described in my previous inquiry

I created an example file, it is good for you?

Very pretty but how did you do it?

Insert>Object>Chart (insert column chart)
- Double click to enter into Chart edit mode
- change to pie chart,
- remove legend by selecting and deleting it
- select data series, by clicking on pies
- in local menu select "Chart Data table"
- add texts into categories, numbers into Y values,
- in local menu select "Insert data labels"
- in local menu "Format data labels"
- set font colors white in font effects tab, set font size 10 and select bold typeface
- in Data labels tab unselect show value as number
- select Show category
-set Placement "Inside" from drop down.
Thats all, if I wrote down all steps and not missed one

Hi r4zoli
thank you for that.
I followed your instructions, but only partly successfully. I managed to do the pie with the radii and the text. However, I didn't find the drop-down for the "Inside" move. This is not a big problem, I can leave the text also outside. But a much bigger problem remains, and it is that the numbers 1 - 4 (or alternatively some kind of good visible marks) are not displayed on the radii (see my attachment in a previous message). I have noticed that also in your sample that you attached these numbers or markings are missing.
Is there any way I can overcome this problem?

I didn't find the drop-down for the "Inside" move.
In Data Labels tab "Placement" property, see attached picture.

It remains an issue, it is not supported by OOo, now.

Is there some reason you don't want to draw this as a diagram? You can draw almost anything you want, and I don't see any data being graphed; it looks like using the Chart application is just getting in the way.
