[Solved] Language support for ancient Greek

Post by muzhogg »

Hi all,

I'm sure this has been covered somewhere, I've just not sure where to look to find it -- for the moment I'm simply after links to relevant resources on the web.

I'm trying to discover how one might go about adding language support for Koine Greek (i.e. the Greek of the New Testament) and other uncommon languages? All I've been able to discover so far is how one adds language support for cases where dictionaries already exist. But what if one wants support for a language where no dictionary can be found?

I'm further curious as to whether the only requirement is to develop and install a dictionary? That is, once a dictionary for a particular language has been installed, does this language then become available for use as a language setting in a paragraph style setting?

If somebody could point me in the right direction literature wise I'd very much appreciate it.

Regards,
MH.

If you go over to biblicalgreek, Dr Schwandt's area they could tell you. I might be able to help.

On Windows XP its not a StarOffice change but an XP System change.
1. Open "Control Panel"
2. Click on "Regional and Language Options" icon.
3. Click on "Languages" tab.
4. Click on "Details" button to go to the "Text Services and Languages" dialog.
5. Click on "Add" button.
6. Using the "Input Languages" drop down, scroll down until you see "Greek".
7. Click "OK" to return to the "Text Services and Languages" dialog.
Now we do some "Text Services and Languages" housekeeping.
8. Click on "Language Bar" button,
9. Click to check "Show Language Bar on the desktop"
10. Click to check "Show Additional Language Bar Icons in the Task Bar".
11. I left "Key Settings" as the default.
12 Click OK and whatever to exit and save changes.
13. If ok, you will see a little "EN" on the Taskbar, If you click this you will see EL Greek as a selection. So you can click to change or keystroke to change between character sets in StarOffice. Also you might want to experiment with fonts that are happy with Greek.

Good luck,
