cant open impress file

new to open office. tried to do a ppt using impress and it saved fine the first few times but now i cant open the presentation. every time i try an ASCII Filter pops up and it opes as a read only document. Project due friday and i really dont want to have to start over any help is great. thanks

When that happens, it usually means that the file is damaged and OOo can no longer determine what kind of file it is.

I'm not sure, but I think it can also happen when you accidentally save a file without and file extension. Check the file and see if it has an extension: "presentation.ppt".

You haven't told us your OS and OOo version.
