[Solved] Perpetual downloading of 2.3.1

Post by eddietheeagle »

I am having problems with an upgrade to 2.3.1

On loading 2.3.1, an indication in the top RH corner of the screen appears on mouse over," that a download is in progress" !!.

Also, an icon appears on my desktop with the title "OOo_2.3.1_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_en-US.exe".
I delete the icon but it reappears when I load the program again.

I have tried removing and reinstalling but to no avail.

Any help as to what I might do to correct thisa problem would be welcomed.

That icon is most likely the new code. Instead of deleting it. Double click on it to install the update.

Thanks for your reply.

I have not explained myself very well....

I have actually successfully installed the upgrade but I am left with a message that says a download is in progress each time I run the program.

On clicking the desktop icon (this seems to get re-created each time run the program - because I try and delete it each time) I get a:-

NSIS Error - The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete.
This could be the result of a damaged disk, a failed download or a virus.....

Any help most appreciated

You have a corrupted installer. Instead of using the update feature go here http://download.openoffice.org/2.3.1/index.html and download a fresh version of the install. I recommend you uncheck the box says with JRE or something to that effect. See this thread for an explanation of the causes of your error message. http://nsis.sourceforge.net/Why_do_I_get_NSIS_Error.

Thanks for your reply.

I did have an incomplete download (only 69 instead of 107 mb).
I now have a full size d/l and have used this to do a full install (after uninstalling using the windows remove program procedure)

However the problem still exists, the icon reappears on the desktop as soon as I run the Open Office program and the top rh indicator appears on mouse over on the main window.
I am unsure if the wording indicating the download problem is as before - It says "Download of update is in progress"

As you can see I have reached the level of my ability here. Could you advise me in simple steps what I might do.

Thank you for your patience.

The problem has gone !

I think that I must have set off another independant upgrade somehow a couple of days ago. I think that I did not proceed with this correctly and whilst using Open Office (for long enough to allow the download to complete) this second upgrade completed.
I noticed that the download info (top rh corner) had changed..... and all is OK again.

Thanks agin for your help.
