[Solved] Export to PDF issue with OpenType fonts
[Solved] Export to PDF issue with OpenType fonts
Hello, I have a problem that I encounter when I attempt to export my document into a PDF. Mostly, it works perfectly fine but recently I had to use a variety of unique fonts (otf format) and when I create my PDF, the font is not embedded within the file, causing the document to display improperly.
The only solution that I have found to correct this is to print to a PDF writer (such as PDF Creator), but then I loose all of the bookmarking/hyperlinking that I have within my document. If anybody knows of a way to correct this (be it a crazy hack-ish way or whatever) I would be very gratefull.
Thank you.

Re: Export to PDF font issue
OOo does not (yet) support OpenType fonts.

Re: Export to PDF font issue
Aaah okay, that makes sense.
It's just confusing because it uses them just fine in the document.
I'll look for some alternatives.
Thanks for your quick reply!

You should subscribe and vote for that request (up to 2 votes per issue) : Issue 43029 - support PS-OpenType/OTF/(SFNT with CFF) fonts for PDF export and printing.
LibreOffice 25.2 on Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE 7 Gigi) and 25.2 portable on Windows 11.

Use extendedPDF (http://www.3bview.com/epdf-home.html) instead of PDF creator. You'll also need to install their postscript printer.

Re: [Issue] Export to PDF issue with OpenType fonts
Hi, I'm new to this whole open office thing, so bear with me..
i am also having issues exporting .pdf files with uncommon (?) fonts. for instance, i typed up a document using the font "Myriad Pro" (yes, the one apple uses
). When i exported to a .pdf, it used a completely different font.
i read the replies above, but i'm not sure if people were referring to fixes within the open office program, or if they were referring to 3rd party software...? i would really like to be able to export to .pdf directly from the file menu in Writer.
Can anyone help me do that successfully?
Thanks,
Eric

Re: [Issue] Export to PDF issue with OpenType fonts
Myriad Pro is an OpenType font it seems so not possible with OOo yet. Vote for the bug.
To do it, you've to use a third party application, either the ExtendedPDF extension for OOo or a virtual printer like PDFCreator for example.

thanks for the advice, but what does it mean to "vote for a bug" and what is "OOo" ?

Re: [Issue] Export to PDF issue with OpenType fonts
OOo is just a shorthand for "OpenOffice.org", the full, official name for the Free Software office suite, and the organization that supports and promotes it. Using "OOo" saves a lot of typing around here!
Because OOo is a Free, Open Source software project, issues (aka "bugs") or requests for new features or enhancements are all handled publicly: any user can file a report; any user can read the reports and check the status; any user can add a vote for an existing report. While votes alone are not the sole determining factor in what issues get the highest priority, they are an important indication to the developers what issues are causing the most problems for actual users, so voting for a bug that is causing you serious trouble is a good thing.
You can vote for the issue Hagar linked to above, by clicking on the link. In the upper right corner, there is a link to "Register". You have to register with a valid email address in order to vote or use the bug-tracking system. After you've registered, go back to the issue page and click the link to "Vote for this issue" (follow the gray column at the left down to the last gray item, then across to the right).
This will take you to a very complicated-looking page. Just look for the line that shows issue 43029, enter the number of votes you want to case (1 or 2) at the right of that line, then click the "Submit" button down at the bottom.
Now you can click the "Logout" link up in the top right.
If you get stuck with something, just ask.

Alright, thanks. That makes a lot more sense!
I think my votes went through.

Great! Thanks for taking time to do that. It can't hurt to let the developers know this is a problem thats affecting a lot of people.
