Address books

Post by tijuana631 »

Hi

I'm trying to make a large contacts database (over 500 contacts). The original information is coming from address book for the mac. I've exported that as a txt file and imported into excel and from there into Base. Works fine. The only problem i now have is updating it. I receive an updated txt file of the address book contacts but obviously i dont want to have to make a new database everytime i want to update contact details. Can anyone give me an idea of how to set this up better. I'm new to databases.

Is the text file a standard CSV file? ( Fields separated by a commna, or a TAB, etc )

If so then yes there is a much better way to do this.

You can create a link to a text file from within a Base file, the text file will be treated as a table - You can just export a new file to the same location and name and the next time you open Base you are working with the new data.

Let me know what your export file looks like and I can help you with this.
