Printing error - wrong page size after update from 2.1

Post by metalhippyrich »

I've just updated to OpenOffice 2.3.0 and now can't print correctly- I think because of a problem with the page size. The document runs off the top of the page.

I've been running OpenOffice 2.1 for ages, and never had any trouble printing.

Using Mac OSX 10.4.11, up to date.
The document looks correct in Page Preview within OpenOffice. The page size is A4 (European Standard).

However, I ran a test by doing a "Print to file" and saving a Postscript file. When I then opened this (Mac converts it to pdf and displays it in Preview) the document is displayed incorrectly - too high on the page. I notice in: pdf Document Info > Details > page size , that it is displaying the wrong page size- measurements that match "letter", not A4.

I tested using OpenOffice 2.2 and get the same problem. It also prints at a fraction of the speed, compared to printing from 2.1.

I surely can't be the only person to have discovered this problem, but I haven't been able to find anything else about it, so I'm posting here. If someone could point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks

Additional niggle: I've had to go back to using 2.1, but it won't let me change the "Open with" setting. I "Change All" in the usual way- but immediately reverts to 2.3!

Maybe your printer for the "standard printer output" has been set to "letter-format" instead of "A4-format"?

I've had this error ever since I started using Open Office - I have been looking for an answer for a while, although I must admit I've had little luck until now even finding someone else who has the same issue.

I regularly receive Word docs via email which I need to print out and every one prints missing the top 1.5 inches or so. I also did the print to file test (as mentioned above) and found that the pdf which is created is missing the same amount of the top of the page. The document displays perfectly in all previews and while I'm working on it in OO.

I followed the links in the message from jwr but I'm using OSX and the threads jwr referred to are for Windows users. (added to that I didn't even understand half of what they were talking about in the first post!)

I don't understand what this means. My printer prints everything else (from other applications) correctly.
If I change the settings in OO (File > Printer Settings > Properties) to A4 the settings revert back to US Letter the next time I open. Even if I save the document and open the recently saved version. So the I am unable to change the default setting for all documents, and I am unable to change the setting for individual documents.

Is this a case of my preferences not being saved? Is there anything I can do to test this?

I'm using Mac OSX 10.5.2 and OO 2.4.0 (this error also happened for me in OO 2.3)

Thanks,

I never found a solution to that issue.

Now I just use Neo Office instead and I haven't had any issues at all. It's based on OpenOffice but is much more intergrated to the Mac OS, so uses native Mac print dialogues etc.
