trying to install oo2.3 over oo2.0

I've downloaded the newest version of Open Office and cannot install it, because an installation file is missing from my current (OO 2.0) version. I can't remove my current version, either by going through Add/Remove programs on Windows xp Pro or simply trying to delete the Open Office file from my Program Files. I'm at work now and can't remember what error number I keep getting--1472? something like that--and can't remember the name of the missing file. Any suggestions on what to do??

Try reinstalling the old version first. That should restore missing files.

If that doesn't work, then we need the exact text of the error message. This is a user-to-user forum, so I doubt that many of us know where to find a list of error codes. But the text usually holds some clues.

I went to
http://filehippo.com/download_openoffice/ and load the 2.0 installation package. I can't still delete the 2.0 version because it says this msi files is not a valid installation package for the OpenOffice 2.0 ! I get also a message that a newer version is installed which is not the case ! I'm not quite sure the problem is an OpenOffice problem, it could be my XP installation which create the problem.
Is there a way to manually uninstalled the 2.0, files and registry?
