I don't see a way to enable the automatic spell checker in Writer and disable it in Calc. If there is a way, what is it? If there isn't a way, there needs to be.

Create your individual default template for Calc:
http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/ ... f=9&t=1957
While editing your template, call Tools>Options>Language Settings>Languages...
Default language for documents
[None]
[X] This document only

Well, I couldn't get the template thing to work (I followed the procedure and opened some spreadsheets, but the spell checker was still enabled), but I did manage to disable it for the two spreadsheets I use. Good enough. Thanks!

Look at the Default cell style (open the Stylist - F11) of your spreadsheet template (to edit it, go to File>Template>Edit), set the language to None in the Font tab.
Thanks to add '[Solved]' in your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.
