Auto-Correct like function but not auto correct?

Hi all,

One of my aquaintances had OpenOffice 2.0 where this problem 1st emerged (only a couple of days ago). He updated today to 2.3 at my request but stil this problem persists. It only does this with Writer. He's running Microsoft Windows XP (fully patched) with various applications. AVG. Spybot etc, all of which are updated daily.

The problem is, if he types "and " within the document (old or new) it gets automatically changed to "ND" (no quotes) when he hits the spacebar. Now I thought that this *must* be an auto-correct type setting, so went into tools, auto-correct, replace but there was no entry that resembled this action. In fact, theres nothing in there for either and->ND or *anything* to do with ND.

As a work around we have 2 options - 1 is to deliberatley mis-spell the word "and" i.e. "adn" and let auto-correct change it for us, or secondly to type the doc as usual then do a search & replace at the end looking for ND and replacing with and.

I'm no Oo expert as I'm forced to use M$ applications as part of company policy so am a little stuck here for anything other than the basics.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Freudy

You are correct that this certainly sounds like an AutoCorrect problem so lets check that another way. Tools > AutoCorrect > Option tab and uncheck Use Replacement Table in the T column. Now type “adn” and “and”. Does “and” still result in “ND”?

Hi JohnV,

It appears that that does the trick - he can type "and" and it's not changed.

In the interests of brevity I've asked him to reply to this thread directly in order to speak to the organ grinders .. as it were.

Thanks indeed.

Well, of course it works but you disable the AutoCorrect feature. I'm not particularly fond of that feature but in fact, we've not really found the root cause here.

AutoCorrect is language sensitive. In the replacement table where you've tried to find the 'and' string, was the language at top of the dialog the same as the one used in the text?
