Powerpoint incompatibility?

Post by Souriante »

I use Impress and I'm working with a colleague who uses PowerPoint 2003. If I create a chart in Impress, and save it as .ppt, he cannot access the datasheet to work with the numbers. If he creates the chart in PowerPoint, I cannot access the datasheet. Is there any way around this?

Your information is too scarce to judge. It would be nice to have a sample file. Anyway, check that in Options - Parameters - Load/Save - Microsoft Office all the boxes (related to conversion of OLE objects) be ticked.

I have a similar Issue. I created a Presentation with latest Impress and save it with PPT extension. When I try to open it with PowerPoint 2003 or Viewer 2003/2007 it gives me an error message:
PowerPoint can't open the type of file presented by "local_path_to_file.ppt"

More details on my problem. To construct a chart in Impress, a bar graph for example, you enter your numbers in a datasheet, very similar to what you do in Powerpoint 2003. But my colleague, who has PowerPoint 2003, cannot open my datasheet, even though I saved the file as .ppt. He gets an "application unknown" message. So perhaps there is a datasheet incompatibility between the apps.

Also, when I receive a chart made in Powerpoint 2007, which uses Excel instead of an internal datasheet, I can't access it in Impress. It seems to be saved as an image.

If anyone would like to exchange some files in Powerpoint 2003, 2007, and Impress, perhaps we can work out a solution, if possible.
