I did not have any problem upgrading 2.3.0 to 2.3.1 on Vista Home Basic. Try to uninstall the previous version first (your user settings will remain, don´t worry, but you may need to backup your spellcheck dictionary folder) and then to clean install 2.3.1.

From that thread: error 1402.could not open key - during install and uninstall:
AndrewZ wrote:It seems the problem also happens with people installing iTunes, so you may want to try Apple's solution. Of course, substitute .cdda --> .DIF.

Also, this Microsoft article is similar:

You could also try this Google search for 1402 "could not open."

Then, you're not full administrator of your machine!
Check the base of registry file and see if your account has the write rights. I don't remember exactly its name but Google should give you that.

Perhaps but I've never seen that process to be followed to fix a bad install. Have you checked that your account has enough rights? Even administrators seem to have restricted rights under Vista, perhaps there are several categories of admins!

Thks
I checked this: you're right, Vista home premium admins have limited rights, you must have Vista "integrale" or "pro" o have full rights...
I suggest the deeveloppers @ Oooo change the install process to cope with this

I would rather suggest Microsoft developers to improve their rights management. Under Windows, you always need to be full admin of your machine, which is very dangerous in fact. No such issue with Linux. It's not to promote Linux but just to point out that plenty of other OS don't have such flaw.

I tag the thread as Solved then.

I point out that even if I log in as administrator with full rights, I still get that f*@#~& error 1402 so I do think there's a bug with 0ooo installation routine: I enabled the "full" administrator logon, enabled full control for 0oooo setup file (properties/security tab) right clicked to launch it as admin... no way
thks anyway :)

Then, it may be related to your system because as you can see, there is not so many threads about that error.

When you started the installer, did you right click and choose "run as administrator"?
