I am trying to write "3x+4", and I want the "x" to be italicized, but I don't want an annoying-little-should-not-be-there space between the "3" and the "x".
I have tried "3 ital x", "3 x", and "3{x}" and I always get the little space. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks in advance.

Remove spaces in a formula
OOo 3.0.X on Ubuntu 8.x
Re: Remove spaces in a formula
I agree, it's too bad that OOo can't produce better results for such a common, simple situation, but I don't think there's any way to improve it. If this kind of issue is important to you, you probably need to use something other than OOo Math.
You may want to try http://extensions.services.openoffice.o ... t/ooolatex.

Re: Remove spaces in a formula
I don't think this kind of advice "too bad program X doesn't do that, better try program Y" is a good alternative. I haven'f found yet, but probablly tere's a way to do this, is a very obvious need. Many small problems I had have been solved looking for them at this forum, and most of them have an undocumented solution. Some examples:
<?> csub <?> makes the second part go under the first (like the "limit csub {0 tendto 3}", for example)
"left lline <?> right none", to put just one (left in this case) scalable vertical line around something.
I'll keep looking!
