Formatting different in word than open office

Hi all,

When I create a new document with Open Office ie 11 pages long and save it as .doc for microsoft word, when I open it in Microsoft the formatting is completly wrong. So when I correct it in Microsoft word and reopen in Open office the formatting is still out. Is this a general problem with incompatilbilty between the software or user error (Me).

Any help would be appreciated I really dont want to use microsoft office

Since .doc is a closed proprietary format, achieving 100% compatibility is virtually impossible. Although OpenOffice.org generally handles .doc files rather well, complex documents can cause conversion problems. So, no, it's not you.
