Screwed up installing extention

Post by jgribbin »

I installed an extension, oooblogger, and messed it up. What can I say, I am new to extensions in OO.

It came in a .zip file, so I unzipped it and used the extension manager to install the 2 files it contained. Not the proper way, I now know!

I attempted using the extension mgr to uninstall the files. It wouldn't remove oooblogger.py. So I located oooblogger.py and manually deleted it. It now appears I need to un-register oooblogger in some manner as when I attempt opening the 'OpenOffice.org Extensions' subdirectory in the Extension Mgr, I get an error message that oooblogger.py cannot be located and can go no further. I also attempted re-creating the directory and copying the file back and un-installing/re-installing OpenOffice to repair this ... No Joy.

Any tips on how to fix this?

rename this folder to other name:
Documents and Settings/<user>/Application Data/OpenOffice.org2
After it stop Quick Starter and restart OOo this will recreate folder, but will start as clean installation

Well, that didn't work for me.

I renamed that directory and OpenOffice did not recreate it for me. I ended up recreating it myself and have been careful about what I've copied over so far.

It also did not make my problem go away. I was still getting the same error message in the Extension Manager.
C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.3\program\..\share\uno_packages\cach\uno_packages\7F.tmp_\ooblogger.py does not exist.

I ended up uninstalling OpenOffice, moving C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.3\ to a safe place, and reinstalling.

I'm guessing that OpenOffice keeps a lot of the information someplace else that I haven't figured out yet as even though I moved the installation directory someplace the installer should not have been able to find it, I did not have to set up OpenOffice again. All my personal information, paths, etc. were still set up the way I had them.

I do seem to be able to get into the Extension Manager now, so I guess I have to say it's solved. It remains to be seen if I haven't caused other problems with my fix though.

Thanks though,

When you install an extension, you do NOT unzip the package. Install it as is.

Well, it depends ... If the file comes with file name extension oxt it should be installable by double-click, using OOo's extension manager or from the command line. *.oxt files are nothing but zip archives with a different name extension to indicate that they want to be installed as office extension.
There are many packages with file name extension zip. Most of them contain some documentation and license together with one or more oxt files. You need to extract the oxt package(s) from the distributed zip-package and read the additional documentation before you install the extracted oxt-packages.
File name extension *.oxt has been introduced in February 2007 with OOo2.1(?) or something. Older packages had been distributed with file name extensions *.zip or *.pkg. When you open those packages with a zip tool and you see some typical entries such as "META-INF", "registry", "manifest.xml" then you know you have opened the extension itself. Just install the whole zip file with OOo's extension manager or from the command line.
Please, edit this topic's initial post and add "[Solved]" to the subject line if your problem has been solved.

Stop! If OOo does not create it, then you've done something wrong. I would guess that you either did not close all your OOo windows, or you did not exit the quickstarter.

If you succeed in moving the configuration folder, OOo will start with the first-run (registration) wizard, and it will create a new, clean and correct configuration folder/tree. If that doesn't happen, something is not right.
