Hi:

MS Powerpoint, has a keyboard shortcut to insert a new slide, Ctrl + M. Does OOo Impress have a keyboard shortcut too??

You can assign the Insert > Slide function to a keystroke using Tools > Customize > Keyboard.

Ctrl+M is already in use as Format > Default, so I wouldn't recommend using that one.
