I can't open adobe acrobat documents saved on my system with writer. How do I do it? I've just installed the programme.

No, Writer cannot open Acrobat documents (PDF). You can copy/paste from the PDF reader into Writer, but you will likely have to do extensive re-formatting.

In general, you can take a word-processor document and make a PDF file from it, but you cannot take a PDF file and make a word-processor document from it, because the PDF file does not contain all the information needed to reconstruct the word-processing form.
