Using a Windows XP system I create a document in Calc. I paste it into a Write document. When I try to save it as a Word document only the wordprocessed part is saved. The Calc spreadsheet part does not appear. Can you suggest a solution?
Thank you,
Diane
Saving OOo Write document to Word format fails.
Re: Saving OOo Write document to Word format fails.
This works OK for me. See attached sample. What version of OOo are you using. If you want to insert your OLE object as an XLS embedded file, then you need to save the Calc spreadsheet as a .XLS and then insert object from file.
It does work if your are careful. Remember that MS doesn't make it easy to interoperate with any third party office products.

Ubuntu 11.04-x64 + LibreOffice 3 and MS free except the boss's Notebook which runs XP + OOo 3.3.

I agree... I think it might be necessary to do that if the end result needs to be a Word document. If you do this regularly, DianeD, you could change your options for Calc to always save as .xls.TerryE wrote: If you want to insert your OLE object as an XLS embedded file, then you need to save the Calc spreadsheet as a .XLS and then insert object from file.

Re: Saving OOo Write document to Word format fails.
Thank you for your suggestions. However, when I save my spreadsheet as an .xls file and paste it into a Write document saved as a Word document, the spreadsheet loses its fomatting of font and style, and cannot be moved as an object. I am much happier in the Open Office environment, but I must share documents with people who don't have it. Any other suggestions, please?

If you're pasting it as a DDE link, that only links to data in the spreadsheet. Just use Writer's styles and formatting to make the table look the way you want. However, because it is a table and not a framed object, it's true you can't drag it as an object. But that's how tables work in Word too, so I'm not sure there's any benefit in having a draggable object. Word has never handled floating objects well.DianeD wrote:Thank you for your suggestions.
