Foreign Language Keyboard
Foreign Language Keyboard
Is it possible to use the Windows XP foreign language keyboards with Open writer?
Re: Foreign Language Keyboard
The simple answer is yes. OOo has excellent foreign language support.
Ubuntu 11.04-x64 + LibreOffice 3 and MS free except the boss's Notebook which runs XP + OOo 3.3.
Re: Foreign Language Keyboard
I believe that I found my problem. It appears that I need to start a blank document before selecting a different keyboard. Otherwise, the keyboard doesn't change from English (EN). Is this the standard procedure, or is my system unique? hjz
Re: Foreign Language Keyboard
No in XP the keyboard is defined through Control Panel->Reional and Language Options. Rather than me repeating how, a quick google will give you some examples. The other issue is that you need to use the default template for that language, which picked up at OOo start-up, though you can define multi-lingual templates where necessary

Re: Foreign Language Keyboard
I believe that I got through the XP Keyboard set-up ok. I have the EN (English) icon in my system tray, and am able to select a foreign language. However, there is a slight difference (which I discovered by trial and error) in starting a new document in MS Word and OO Writer. I can select a new language, and begin typing in MS Word, but I need to click-on the Writer document prior to selecting a new language. Otherwise the keyboard remains in EN.
As I noted before, this may be due to a bug in my system, which is easy to live with. hjz
