I have installed OO on a few PC's and am very happy with it. But I tried to install in on a Compaq laptop running Vista Home Premium. When I attempt to start it, I get a blank dialog box with only an OK button. Clicking the OK button or closing the dialog simply clears the dialog and OO never starts. Here are some system specifics:
Manufacturer: Hewlit Packard
Model: Presario F500
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor TK-53 1.70GHz
Memory: 1470 MB
System Type: 32 bit
I was able to install and run OO Version 1.1x on the same system.
Any ideas??
Thanks.

Re: Help for Newbie
Have you tried to disable any antivirus or firewall before installing ?
If you've installed OOo 1.1, I guess you've enough rights to install applications.

LibreOffice 25.2 on Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE Faye) and 24.8 portable on Windows 11.

Thanks. Yes the anti virus software is off both during install and when I try to run it. Firewall is off also. By the way, the OO version I tried to install contained the JRE. Could that be a problem?
Re: Help for Newbie
Shouldn't be... but if I recall correctly, there's a way to disable the Java component when you run the installer, so you could try it that way. Because you've installed a different version of OOo, you might need to make sure it's not running in the system tray (if there is one still in Vista) but you should be able to install over the old version just fine. Did you try that?fm606713 wrote:By the way, the OO version I tried to install contained the JRE. Could that be a problem?
Are you installing from the same download file you used on the other machines? What else is installed on the Vista machine that's not on the other machines that had successful installations?
What are the user security settings for that user's profile? I just ran across a thread in a different forum that described a similar problem, though opposite: only one user could run OOo, none of the others could. It had to do with needing administrator-level access on their Vista user profiles.
Also-- Please read the Survival Guide to the forum (see the link in my sig line below) and please rename the subject of this thread to something meaningful that describes the problem. I just spent twenty minutes trying to locate this thread again to add that profile suggestion. The subject needs to be meaningful so others who are searching for similar problems can tell whether or not this thread might contain useful information for them.
Cheers!
