OO 3.0.0 Vista endless loop w. opening some of OO 2.4-Files

Hello all

I did a clean 3.0.0-Installation on my freshly bought Notebook running Windows Vista 64Bit. Now I can open several of my old files, but some end up in an endless loop (an empty window with "Opening Document" at the bottom is there and there is constant HD activity).

The Sun ODF Plugin for Microsoft Office 2007 is producing the same problem.

One of the documents making trouble is attached. It contains checkboxes. But another file which doesn't contain them and is an ODT (not a ODS like this one) is causing the effect too (can't attach it because it contains our passwords

To work around the problem I installed OpenOffice 2.0 now (the only package < 3 I could find on my computers). I hope that will work until 3.0.1 is out...

I have some evidence that OOo 2.0 has the problem too. Even though I did not yet reboot after installing it (sometimes this is still soving problems, isn't it?). But it's quite possible that this is a Vista and/or 64Bit-Problem then. I still hope it can be solved somehow! Otherwise I have to convert my stuff to MS-Office

Hi and welcome to the forums.

It opens perfectly well for me in Windows XP SP3 with OOo 3.0 (if a little slowly).

I can open the xls and save it again as .ods which works afterwards. Well, yeah, that solves my problem (I have XP and Linux here so I can convert it to everything). But it's kind of ugly to use a MS Format as a transporter from ODF to ODF...

Yes, you shouldn't have to do that. The behaviour of your system is non-standard.

Just so you know, there are free on-line conversion sites like Zamzar that can convert files you.

Indeed Well, how many Tests did the programmers do on Vista 64Bit? I guess that OS is not that commonly used (I got a 32Bit-OS with the machine even though it's a 64Bit Hardware Business Notebook and if I didn't need 64Bit for installing things like MS SQL Server 2008 I definitely hadn't switched the OS myself).

Good Tip. Of course I will not convert my business documents containing customer data, passwords etc using a 3rd party website but for less important stuff it's a nice thing. I will convert it on my other computer which runs Ubuntu and XP.

Strange, I can open the file without any problem on my xubuntu (Hardy) box with OOo 3.0. Perhaps you can try to reset your OOo user profile, don't transfer your personal data during the welcome process, it can wreck the new profile.
