.THM problem

Post by Quartzkyte »

Hi all,

As a pro I often have to install software on customers machines (individuals, not companies).

One of my first choices is OOo 2 (+ VLC & XnView) but earlier this month I had to use the older version (1.15) on a slow computer.

Now I got a call from the gentleman, stating that the .THM extension was overtaken by OOo for the configuration files.
He cannot anymore previsualize or view his MOVXXXX.THM movies with the said extension.
:(
I Googled this extension, but no clue on how to rebuild Windows original viewing - as neither he nor I know what the original file was.
Would anyone here be able to give me a lead?

Thank you.

I assume that these MOVXXX.THM files are videos made from a digital camera?

THM is quite a commonly used file extension. To name a few....
  • Microsoft Clipart Gallery Database
  • OpenOffice.org Configuration File
  • Thumbnail Image
  • Video Thumbnail
  • Sony Ericsson Theme File
  • Canon G3 Digital Camera Thumbnail
To re-associate the extension, you really need to know what application was associated. It could be any of a couple dozen bits of software. I would try to find out what device he used to make the videos. Chances are there is some proprietary software that came with it (eg a Sony camera, and thus some Sony video editing software), and that software is what he wants to have associated with the THM files.
openSUSE 11.4, KDE4.6 with OpenOffice.org 3.3

That would be my guess too.

 exactly what I feared to have to do... Thank you anyway.
