HI,

We are facing issue with Format Cell. If We are copy Numeric value from one cell to other cell and we want to change that numeric value into text through format cell. it is not converting this numeric value into text through format cell option. for this same scenario excel give tip option on the same cell to convert numeric value to text or vice verse convert text to numeric value. Is there any such option in open office version 3. Please help me out in this issue.

I don't know about Excel, but as far as Calc goes, changing a cell's format will never change the data in the cell. If a cell holds a numeric value and you change the cell format to text, it does not convert the number to text. That seems like the right approach to me, and I'm a little surprised that Excel would actually change the data in the same situation.

If you want to change a numeric value to text, you have to do something that "re-enters" the data as text.

One way to do a whole column of numbers is this:
1) Select the column
2) Apply the text format
3) Data > Text to Columns; OK

If you need to do a range of cells spanning several columns, use this:
1) Select the cells
2) Apply the text format
3) Edit > Find & Replace
Search for: .*
Replace with: &
Options/Regular expressions: YES
Options/Current selection only: YES
Click "Replace All"
