Letters/Cursor "Jump" All Over the Page, While Typing

Post by DavidW1 »

 :o   HELP!!!! When I am typing in OOo 3.0, letters/cursor randomly, with NO predictability, JUMP to various spots on the previously typed portions of the page. IT JUST HAPPENED NOW, as I was typing this "Call For Help!!!" This problem only occurs in OOo 3.0 .
I DO NOT experience this problem anywhere else, on my computer! WHAT CAN I DO???
(NOTE: It frustratingly happened 12 times, just while typing this description & Q.) :(

Do you mean you write in OOo before copying and pasting in your web browser???

Do you use a laptop? If so could it be the touchpad that you touch?

Check that your laptop is on a firm surface; some laptops on a soft surface flex and get spurious messages from the touchpad. Also check system settings, probably in Control Panel, Keyboard and Mouse, for a setting to "disable touchpad while typing".

You probably have "Tap to click" enabled on the Touchpad so whenever you tap the touchpad or your sleeve brushes against it (it can be remarkably sensitive) you send a random mouse left-click. The cursor jumps anywhere.

Cover the Touchpad with a piece of stiff plastic like a credit card. Does that fix it? If so disable Tapping by Start > Control Panel > Mouse ..., and find the Touchpad settings. Some laptops (some Acer models for example) do not come with the correct Touchpad driver and it is impossible to disable tapping.

If this solves the problem, please view your first post in this thread and click the Edit button (top right in the post) and add [Solved] in front of the subject.
