Is there a version, converter, or plug-in for openoffice that will allow me to open an Office 95 file and save it in a newer format?

Just open the files and save a copy in any other supported file format.

The present version won't open office 95 files. That's why I asked the question about an older version, plug-in, or converter.

Which version are you currently using? Just last week I worked on a Word 95 file in OOo Writer 3. Found out it was a Word 95 format cause Word 2007 refused to save it in the current format and was insisting on using a newer version.

We are transitioning from MS Office to OOo and one of the files I needed to correct formatting on in Writer I used Word 2007 to compare how it was supposed to look. When I went to close the file the Word 95 warning appeared. Writer opened it fine before that.

I was using OpenOffice Portable 2.4 to open a Powerpoint 95 file. I get a Version Incompatability Incorrect File Version error. I can open Word 95 files with OpenOffice with no problem. It's the Powerpoint files that seem to be the problem.

You could try Zamzar, the free on-line conversion site. It might be able to cope with office 95 files, and it supports OOo formats so you could hopefully convert from .ppt to odp.

No, I can't upload the file or use an on-line service because the content is proprietary.
