[Solved] Update list of recent documents

Post by montana722 »

[SOLVED] I have been using Open Office without a favorite feature that apparently is no longer available. That is to eliminate unwanted documents from the 10 recent documents list. This was possible through History Master Extension. What is the best or only way to do that currently ?

I am using version 4.1 on Windows 11.

Else, switch to LibreOffice. You can finely decide what documents to keep or even pin to the recent documents list.

I believe if you try to install this you will find it gives you an error message and I tried everything. I don't know why this was eliminated but this is why I posted to see if something had replaced it.

Thanks for the suggestion. But just looking at the thread complexity and length of the explanation I am not comfortable with messing with Open Office. I have had crazy things happen that I didn't even know what I did to cause it. I at least have it working can use and add modifications to my documents so I'm going to ride this format until it quits. I don't even feel comfortable clicking on the updates I'm notified about. I was just hoping maybe something had replaced History Master Handler as it has been years that option is gone.

I will have to live with finding out which document in my list opens the file and is the one I want. It was great when I could clean up that list but that appears to be something I'll just have to accept.

I have it installed - I don't recall any problem with the installation. What is the error message you get if you try to install?

Here are the simplified instructions for installing LibreOffice:

(1) Check the 'bit-ness' of your operating system. 32-bit or 64-bit and note it down.
(2) Download the LibreOffice installer that matches the bit-ness of your operating system.
(3) Launch the installer, and install LibreOffice.

That's it, you're done with installation. Now just setup LibreOffice how you want it to be (same as you would have to do for OpenOffice).

P.S. In installing LibreOffice you will not lose any of your 'OpenOffice documents' and LibreOffice will open them just fine.
LibreOffice 25.8.4.2 (x64) installed to Windows 11 Pro. 25H2
Apache OpenOffice Portable 4.1.16 [Portable Apps]
For Java I use Adoptium Temurin JRE LTS Releases.

I may get irritated enough that I'll give it a shot but you make it a lot more simple than what that thread link says that you gave me. It talks about needing to rename file extensions to work in Libre Office. And then even to have to reinstall Open Office if you decide you want to go back. It's not a crisis that I have to have names in my recent documents that are junk but I'm not very skilled in computer stuff and I know things that have happened before that I was lucky enough to figure out and fix. Thanks again and one day I may use your link.
