[Solved] Screen shifts; keyboard doesn't respond

Post by daninsman »

While typing in Text Documents the screen will make a shift and the keyboard stops working for a short while. This happens repeatedly while typing. Any solution?

I don't remember ever hearing of such a thing. How exactly is the screen shifting? Is the shift associated with pressing a particular key?

Also, how large is the document? Does it have content other than plain text, such as tables, charts, illustrations?

What key do you use to indicate the end of a paragraph? In which format is the document Saved?

That is probably the autosave - that temporarily blocks input while saving a copy of your document to disk.
Note: the autosave is only intended as a protection against crashes. You still have to save your documents manually.

Look at the settings in /Tools /Options /Load-Save/General and see what time is set against "Save AutoRecovery information every". If that is set to a small value, it may be the problem as floris v indicates. Set it to a larger value, such as 10 or 15 minutes, restart OpenOffice (to be sure that value takes) and see if that improves the situation.

Also, it would be helpful to know the size and complexity of the file and the file type.
