Toolbar needs to be larger

Post by amsr »

Edit: Split from [Solved] Toolbar needs to be larger because that topic is solved so you need your own. If you had the same problem you could use the same solution. Please do not post in another's topic unless you are helping to solve their problem for them. And you posted in a MacOS topic even though you run Linux, so I created a new topic for you in that forum.

Hi Open Office experts,
I have a Dell running Ubuntu 22 with a high pixel resolution and even at 130% and 'large' the toolbar icons and labels are minute (about 1-2 mm). For some stand-alone applications I can use GDK SCALE=2 or similar in the java path to increase the size. Is there anything like this I can add to the start-up path for Open Office (4.1.15), please? Or any other suggestion please?
Thanks

No idea. You should ask the AOO dev mailing list.
In LibreOffice, there are several sizes:

Extra_large.png

LibreOffice 25.2 on Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE Faye) and 24.8 portable on Windows 11.

Thank-you. I will try the other mailing list as I do not see the menu above in Open Office (although it looks good!) but Libre Office does not load documents correctly on Ubuntu so I use Open Office.

Actually, I cannot find the "AOO Dev" forum either by that name or spelt out, all links lead me back here! Sorry, please could someone give me a web address? Thanks.

A suggestion: start OpenOffice from a batch file that sets your display to be 1920 x 1080; with settings in OpenOffice set to Scaling = 130% and Icon size and style = Large, the interface is quite usable. Those setting should allow you use OO with comfort.

Thanks for the mailing list link.

Thanks for the other tip; yes, I can lower my screen resolution but then the browser and all the other tools which I have set to work with the best resolution of 3840x2400, have to be resized. I use Open Office to assemble reports etc. using Gimp and specialised packages and Open Office is the only one which I cannot make compatible. But I am very grateful for a free package! Thanks. Thanks also for the very useful forum which has solved previous problems for me.
