[Dropped] Disappearing vertical ruler

I happened to be editing a Writer document that had a table on the first page, and when I was on the second page (insertion point) I didn't see any vertical ruler, just the horizontal one along the top of the page. I wondered why that was. Could it be some influence of the table being above it? I started a new document and put a table on the first page then typed into the second page, but the ruler was showing there. I don't know what it is about this particular document, but it was being totally stubborn about it. I even removed the manual page break in case that was somehow the cause. That didn't change anything.

Now, this isn't all that critical to me. I was just curious. After I shut down my computer and came back the next day, I brought the stubborn document back up and then the vertical ruler was showing on the second page (when the insertion point was there, of course).

Such a mystery this app can be.
