[Solved] Files from old computer are locked for editing

Post by Alan@IDMsoft.co.uk »

I have copied some .odt files from an old Windows 10 computer to a new Windows 11 machine. File Explorer does not report the files as read only. When I try to open them in Writer I am told the file is locked for editing (by me). I am given the opportunity to open a copy so I can work around this inconvenience but I would like to know if there is an easier way. All I want to do is edit my own files,
Alan.

With OpenOffice closed go to the folder in which are the files in question. Enable "viewing of hidden and archive files" (words to that effect), and Delete any files of the form ~.lock.Filename.xxx#

Rory,
That's done the trick, thank you. And thanks for responding so quickly,
