General Error for corrupt text document

Post by owass11 »

Last night I was just finalizing a report by adding some pictures when my Mac (MacBook Air 13-inch early 2015) froze.
I decided to shut it down and restart it. However, LibreOffice would not open my Text document. The following message
appears when trying to open the file:

The file 'Projektbericht.odt' is corrupt and therefore cannot be opened. LibreOffice can try to repair the file.
The corruption could be the result of document manipulation or of structural document damage due to data transmission.
We recommend that you do not trust the content of the repaired document.
Execution of macros is disabled for this document.
Should LibreOffice repair the file?

When I say "No", it gives me the message "General Error. General input/output error." When I say "Yes" it opens a "repaired"
document with empty content.

The Finder file still shows my file with a size of 22.8 MB and a Modified Date of Yesterday 17:47, which is way before the
incident happened.

Is there anything I can do to recover the text?

Thank you in advance.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

You can check the backup folder in the user profile.
LibreOffice 25.2 on Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE Faye) and 24.8 portable on Windows 11.

If you enabled Time Machine, it will probably have a copy of yesterday's document. If not, consider doing so for the future.
