[Solved] OpenOffice (Writer) 4.1.15 continually crashes

I just recently bought a new HP laptop (HP Laptop 15-dy5xxx, that's all I could find), which operates on Windows 11 version 23h2. I then installed Open Office 4.1.15. However, Writer continually crashes, saving everything, except what I was working on, of course.
There doesn't seem to be any one way that causes it to crash. Often, it often crashes when I use the Ctrl key (with any number of secondary keys), or when I'm saving, or just about anything. Because of the Ctrl key issue, I've taken to using Copy, Paste via the Edit menu; and it's even crashed doing that. I often get a box pop up that says, "Bad [something, I forget, sorry]," and then Writer just disappears with all of the open documents.
I've been trying to get it to crash just now, doing all the things I usually do that causes it to crash to bring up that box; and, of course, it won't crash. LOL I just re-downloaded Open Office but I have not tried installing it yet. I thought I'd wait to hear from anyone in the Forum. Meanwhile, I'm just going to keep working in Writer while I can, as there's some heavy writing I need to get done. Thanks.

The first thing to try is resetting your user profile. I haven't used Windows 11, but on Windows 10, after closing OpenOffice, open any folder and enter %appdata%\OpenOffice in the address bar near the top. This will take you to a folder containing a folder named user. Rename that to user_old. Restart OpenOffice and see if it is stable.
If that does not work, try starting Windows 11 in Safe Mode. You can find instructions on the web of how to do that. Once you are in safe mode, run OpenOffice long enough to convince yourself, or not, that it is stable. If it is stable, OpenOffice and some other program that is usually started automatically are conflicting when you are not in safe mode..

Okay, I turned off Suggested Actions in Clipboard on the System tab, as suggested in one of the references. That didn't work. I got a bad allocation fatal error when I tried to save a Calc document. I forgot that this problem persists in both Writer and Calc, but mostly in Calc, now that I think about it. Maybe I should have put this in the Calc area, but I didn't think about it at the time. Now I'm going to try turning off Clipboard History as suggested. Oops. It's already off. Now, I'm going to have to go reread the more complicated ideas. Thanks.

Okay, I renamed user to user_old as suggested and now I'm off testing it. I'll keep in touch. Thanks.

When the new default OpenOffice profile has been generated, please check the clipboard related settings, lest these have been re-enabled. In many cases instability of OpenOffice n Windows 10/11 is caused by the default clipboard settings in those versions.

Suggested Actions and Clipboard History options are off, as was suggested in one of the remarks in one of the links that was provided by someone. They are the only options with a toggle switch.

Do you mean they were already off or you turned them off?
In latter case, is it better now?
Note: I had already moved the discussion to the Windows forum.

Clipboard History was already off, although someone recommended turning it off. I turned off Clipboard Suggested Actions as recommended. By changing user to user_old as suggested, that seemed to have taken care of the problem, so I'll be closing the post as soon as I get an answer to the following question. Do I need to turn back on Clipboard Suggested Actions or turn on Clipboard History?

Do I need to turn back on Clipboard Suggested Actions or turn on Clipboard History
They are known to cause problems with OpenOffice when copying. If you turn them back on, expect problems.

Thank you. I will leave them off then. Consider this case closed, or will be as soon as I do the editing thing of the original post as explained.
