[Solved] PDF gets converted to ASCII file, why?

I downloaded my bank statement and saved it to the desktop as a PDF file. When I open the file, it automatically converts it to ASCII format with no option to change back to PDF. What am I doing wrong?:

OpenOffice in its default configuration does not open PDF files. You almost certainly have another program on your computer that opens PDF files and you should use that program. Your web browser will probably do it.

The LibreOffice Draw application can open the PDF files, but even the LibreOffice is not a PDF reader nor PDF editor software.
