I have suddenly found that I cannot use spellcheck on a doc created.
On former docs created, spellcheck works fine but not on new ones.
The difference I see is that on an earlier doc when using spellcheck, the box that displays for spellcheck indicates the language in the top right hand box (English) .... etc.
With the new doc I create - when I press spellcheck a box appears with a faded background - with NO language shown on the top RHS, and then a smaller clearer / prominent box inside the larger box saying: Continue checking etc .... with a 'yes' and 'no' box to click.
When I click 'yes' it automatically says: 'spellcheck complete' .... when it hasn't performed any function!
How do I get to the original functioning spellcheck box... with the language shown on the top RHS?
I uninstalled my app and then re-installed (4.1.15 on Windows 10 ... laptop)
Thanks.

Re: Spellcheck issues
There's a buggy template from which OpenOffice creates a blank document when you right-click in the desktop or file explorer of Windows and select New Writer document. In such a document, you can't assign a language to your text. Solution: copy/paste the text to a new blank document that you start from within Writer.
It's possible that LibreOffice doesn't have this problem, and if so, that's one more reason to make the switch.

If no luck, as pointed out by floris v, it may be corner case #2 (bottom of post): 1. Spell checking is not working, why?

Yes, I had this problem in Windows when I was using OpenOffice. LibreOffice doesn't have the problem. In any case there are several other reasons for making the switch anyway, some of which are mentioned here: [Tutorial] Considering a Switch from OpenOffice to LibreOffice? Some Useful Information
