[Solved] Copy files from old to new computer

Have been using Text for many years, and never had a need to do a copy/paste. Purchased a new pc and wanted to copy files to the new computer via a disk. Discovered the copy function was 'grayed out' in the version of AOO I was using. Thinking it was because I had an old version of AOO (4.1.7 I believe), I downloaded and installed the latest version, 4.1.15. After a restart, checked and the function of copy is still grayed out (it looks ok in calc). Now I'm stymied!! Has this been discussed and resolved before, was there perhaps a setting on the original install that continued the problem into the newest install, maybe peculiar to the Text document. I did attempt to create very simple document (no tables, fancy formatting) with just acouple of words and the copy function to be grayed out. Perplexed!! Frank

I don't understand what the copy function in Writer has to do with copying files from one computer to another. Copying files is done with the operating system - Windows 10 according to your signature. Please explain the steps you are using to copy these files.

Copying OO documents to a disk, which I then use to load into an OO app on the second (newer) pc

I guess I should stop trying to copy the files myself using an external usb or disk to copy file between two pcs; and just try to use pcmover and hope for the best?? thanks, Frank

If pcmover is successful relative to copying OO documents to the new computer, that still doesn't solve the problem of why the edit/copy function in OO on the old pc is grayed out as well as edit/cut. I have at least two dozen documents within AOO on the old computer, and I can't cut or copy or paste in any of them. Incidentally, the same problem also occurs with Libreoffice. The old pc is running Windows 10. I would really like to solve that problem as well. Any suggestions??

LibreOffice and OpenOffice are not designed to be file managers - that is a function of your operating system.

The Copy within AOO and LO is for copying a selected part of the current document to another location in the document or to another open document.

Cutting, copying, and pasting text
