[Solved] Margins are inner/outer instead of left/right
[Solved] Margins are inner/outer instead of left/right
I need to change the margins in OO 3.3. I go to Page Style and then to Margins, but when I put in the new values the numbers keep changing. I can't make the new values hold. For example, I have inner and outer margins, they are set at 1.25". I want them set at 0.50" I want the top and bottom margins set at 0.75" How do I make the change?

Re: Problem changing margins in OO 3.3.
You don't say what you mean by it doesn't hold. For new documents afterward?
See if that helps: [Tutorial] Creating a new default template.
Note: 3.3 is really deprecated. You should upgrade to a newer version or to LibreOffice (see [Tutorial] Considering a Switch from OpenOffice to LibreOffice? Some Useful Information). Your signature tells 4.1.5, quite confusing.
Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the 🖉 button if your issue has been fixed.

Re: Problem changing margins in OOo 3.3
It is important to give as much information as possible, then we can faster and better help you. You say what dimensions you want for the margins, but you don't tell to what values they are changed. The only reason for changing the values set by you that I can think of right now is that your printer doesn't allow those (narrow) margins, and forces OpenOffice to change them to its minimum values. There may be another reason. Maybe you save in a foreign format, like .doc.rkheadl wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 10:09 pm I need to change the margins in OO 3.3. Re: Problem changing margins in OOo 3.3
As floris v says, the minimum margins are set by the printer model which tells OpenOffice what it requires. If you need to print to the exact edges of paper, you may need to select a larger paper size if the printer will allow, adjust your margins to enclose the exact area you require, and trim the finished sheets to size.
It may be that changing your OpenOffice to a later version and also verifying that your printer driver is up to date may help, with the above caveat about minimal print margins.

Re: Problem changing margins in OOo 3.3
I have used the values for the margins for many earlier documents, so they are correct. I don't understand why in previous page formats they were called inner and outer while I have always seen them as left and right margins.

Re: Problem changing margins in OOo 3.3
That's because in your page style, you have your pages mirrored. In that case, the right margin of a right page has the same width as the left margin of a left page, and those are then the outer margins. If you want left and right margins, select Right and Left from the Page layout selection box.
You still haven't told us to what values the margins get set by AOO. Eh, we can't reproduce your problem, let alone solve it for you, if we don't know what your problem is.
