[Solved] Add shortcuts to different parts of the document

Post by Palen »

I'd like to be able to add internal links to a writer document I'm working on. As in, click on them to be taken to a different page instantly. Is this possible, and if so, how can it be done?

I'm on Windows 11 and Openoffice 4.1.11 in case it matters.

Indeed it is possible, using Hyperlinks. Note especially
The standard (default) behavior for activating hyperlinks within OOo is to use Ctrl+click. This behavior can be changed in Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org > Security > Options, by deselecting the option Ctrl-click required to follow hyperlinks.
See also the offline HELP - F1 - and search Hyperlink.

Okay, I think that'll work. I'll need to sit down and figure out bookmarks or whatever that is. Thanks!

There are bookmarks, hyperlinks, cross reference fields, indexes. and also reminders which are temporary.

If you're not familier with OO very much, open the Navigator (F5) and you can see all these are available to be used there.

Just applying heading styles to paragraphs is a good way to easily go to them by clicking the list of them in the Navigator.

Personally, I prefer cross-references because they are very robust compared to hyperlinks.

Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the 🖉 button if your issue has been fixed.

I use Comments (sometimes called Annotations) for quick movement about the document using the Navigator. Also a hyperlinked Table of Contents.
